Coinciding with International Women’s Day, Fashion Mamas was thrilled to host our fourth Mamas Making It Summit, which took place on March 8th at Second Home in Hollywood. This annual event is a celebration of interactive experiences and thoughtful panel discussions highlighting makers, creatives, and topics that are especially relevant to mamas seeking inspiration on their individual career path — however that may look. This year’s event boasted 16 influential panelists and 12 sponsors, all of whom offered guests a variety of enriching takeaways.

Some of the day’s most memorable moments included a mindful morning exercise led by Dr. Deepika Chopra, who kicked off the summit with some uplighting words. “A part of increasing happiness and optimism really goes hand-in-hand with this idea of resiliency, and you cannot have resiliency without struggle because the whole idea of resiliency is working through something,” she shared. Our two impressive keynote speakers — model and entrepreneur Nicole Trunfio and actress, producer, and author Elizabeth Berkley Lauren — also had helpful insight to offer.

On the topic of spreading negativity, Trunfio told the crowd: “A few years ago, I just got tired of being in groups of women where [they] would talk badly about other women. And I just couldn’t handle it, it was just irking me. If I would join […] I would walk away feeling so guilty for days, wishing that I never had a part in that conversation. I made up this little mantra for myself that talking about other women isn’t cool anymore, it’s like smoking. I just refuse to do it.” And in addition to fulfilling our deep desires to get the inside scoop on Saved By the Bell and Showgirls, Berkley spoke candidly about a topic most women in the room could relate to: Shame and feeling the need to fit an impossible mold. “It’s shocking to me even amongst close friends, where you thought you could turn to certain people [...] you share some of your deepest vulnerability, but sometimes it can be disappointing,” she explained. “There’s no one size fits all and we know this.” In between these incredible speakers were many other wise words from a roster that included actress and activist Jamie Lynn Sigler, host and blogger Lizzy Mathis, Ritual founder Katerina Schneider, and MindfulFee creator Felicia La Tour, to name only a few.

Attendees were treated to massages from Lifehood, bites from Eatgud, drinks from Boxed Water and Bev, snacks from Hippeas and Urban Remedy, and take-home goodies from Modibodi, Ritual, Hello Bello, and MATE the Label. Additionally, Coterie supplied adorable decor for our fully staffed playroom where littles could mingle and play. As always, Corrie Sullivan of Corrie In Color did an amazing job custom creating stage and photo backdrops that blended seamlessly with Second Home’s already stunning decor and cool color palette.
