The Long Game Is a Family-Friendly Sports Story About Overcoming Adversity — We're Big Fans

As mothers, we’re always looking for creative ways to encourage our children to reach for the stars, against all odds. Whether it’s reading a motivational bedtime story or sharing a personal memory, the hope is our kids remember these moments and lessons so they develop into courageous, confident, and kind humans.

A new tool we recently discovered is a beautiful new film called The Long Game, directed by Julio Quintana and starring Jay Hernandez, Dennis Quaid, and Cheech Marin. It’s an inspirational true story about five young Mexican-American caddies in 1957 who, disallowed from playing on the courses where they caddied, decided to build their own golf course in the South Texas desert and ultimately won the State Championship with the help of their superintendent-turned-coach.

In one scene, Jay Hernandez’s character says, “People need to see Mexican kids playing golf.” Given that Fashion Mamas is filled with dynamic and diverse families, this statement is extremely powerful. We want our children to see more people of color in more spaces so that they can truly believe that anything is possible.

We don’t want to give too much away, so we invite you to see The Long Game for yourself by finding a theater playing the film near you or pre-ordering The Long Game for streaming on Prime video.
