Inside Our Socially Distanced Celebration with Havaianas

In celebration of Latinx Heritage Month — and Fashion Mama’s first-ever Latinx Mama Market — we were thrilled to welcome the iconic Havaianas Kombi van, stocked with the forever-stylish Brazilian footwear brand’s sandals for both mamas and littles. Fun fact about the Kombi van: the van itself is from 1971. Back in the 1960s, Havaianas salesmen would drive around in a VW selling Havaianas — we love that they’ve brought it back as a nod to their history while offering a Covid-safe way to showcase their colorful offerings.

For the first stop on its Eastside tour, the van pulled over at our FM Founder Natalie Alcala’s home, where she made selections from the colorful styles. The Kombi van then made the quick trip over to our LA-based Clubhouse, where members — many of whom had their kiddos in tow — perused and picked out pairs of flip flops for the whole fam, plus enjoyed custom refreshments for the occasion: a caipirinha-inspired cocktail with Brazilian liqueur Cachaça and Little West juice.

As our first in-person event since March, the gifting opportunity and celebration made for a memorable occasion for members who were missing a little face-to-face connection. That said, the FM crew was careful to follow strict safety guidelines. Guest arrivals were limited to specific time slots to avoid overcrowding, all aspects of the event took place outdoors only, and all attendees were required to wear masks and maintain social distance.
